Case Study

Introduction

The Covid-19 pandemic has made it difficult for people to attend physical events. To address this problem, we designed the EDGEX Virtual Event Platform, which provides a complete virtual event solution with features such as live video streaming, live chat, polling, Q&A, evaluation system, certificate maker, and replay for attendees. Additionally, we prototyped a 3D browser-based virtual event that creates an environment that simulates a physical event. In this case study, we will share our design process, personas, user journey, and insights.

Design Process

Our design process included product design, service design, and front-end development. We used Node.js and WebRTC for the backend of EDGEX LIVE, while Vue.js was used for the frontend. For the 3D browser-based virtual event, we used Node.js and Three.js along with a chat feature.

Persona

We used personas to understand our target audience and design the platform accordingly. Our primary persona is a tech-savvy professional who works in the technology industry and attends conferences and events regularly. Their primary goals are to learn about new technologies, network with peers, and stay updated on the latest industry trends.

User Journey

We created a user journey to understand the user's experience while using the platform. The user journey includes the following stages:

  1. Discovery: The user discovers the event through social media, email, or the company website.
  2. Registration: The user registers for the event on the platform and pays the registration fee.
  3. Pre-event: The user receives information about the event, such as the schedule, speakers, and event topics.
  4. Event: The user attends the event and engages with other attendees and speakers through live video streaming, live chat, Q&A, and polling.
  5. Post-event: The user provides feedback through the evaluation system, receives a certificate of attendance, and has access to the replay of the event.

Design Insights

During the design process, we learned the following insights:

  1. Users prefer an intuitive and easy-to-use platform that is accessible on any device.
  2. Users prefer to have a clear schedule of events and access to speaker information.
  3. Users want to have the ability to connect with other attendees and network with peers.
